If You Don’t Know This History, You’ll Never Understand This Moment

Racism Wasn’t Born Yesterday—It Was Designed

Racism isn’t a glitch in the system.

It is the system.

From the earliest slave codes to the three-fifths compromise, to redlining and mass incarceration—America’s institutions were built with racial hierarchy in mind. It wasn’t hidden. It was law.

And yet, most white Americans were never taught this.

Not in school.

Not in church.

Not at home.

Instead, we were handed myths:

- That slavery ended and equality began.

- That colorblindness is virtue.

- That history is neutral.

But the consequences of this erasure are anything but neutral. Today, ICE agents abduct without ID. Police still disproportionately harm Black and Brown communities. And white silence keeps the cycle intact.

In this week’s Allied We Can Cross the Aisle podcast, I’m joined by Kimberly Palermo, anti-racism educator and founder of Synergy Unlimited. On Juneteenth, we trace how racism took root in our systems—and why it continues to bear bitter fruit.

But this episode isn’t just a history lesson.

It’s a call to personal and collective responsibility.

📣 If you’re white and unsure where to start, this is it.

📣 If you’re tired of feeling powerless, this gives you steps.

📣 If you care about justice but don’t know the full story—you need to hear this one.
